It is very surreal to be on the road to a seminar and have the phone ring and ask if you store in on fire. It is also amazing the damage smoke and water can do in a short amount of time. My lovely studio/gift shop was severely damaged by fire. An abandoned building that connects to The Red Thread Studio, caught fire due to electrical problems and spread into my place. We are in an old downtown area, and the buildings are all interconnected in funny ways so the smoke and water caused the worst damage in my shop. Since I work in fiber and fabric many things will be lost. In the mean time I will have no work space for a while. Now it is the tedious task of working with insurance adjusters and building cleaner and inspectors. It was so crazy today I am standing on the sidewalk with five or six different companies and press and all these people wanting me to decide many things at once. It hard to know what direction to turn.
A sad sign to see on the building.
How tragic. I am so sorry for your troubles. I'd like to tell you that the sun will come out tomorrow, when one window closes another one will open, there is a silver lining but the reality is that this just sucks no matter how you look at it. My heart goes out to you...

Well that is the super suck!
However on a sunny side note. You get a newly revonated space! I see this as not an obsticle but a spring board to new spaces and to make friends with the neighbors! I know disastropheys are hard to come back from. Especially when it's not your fault. So, I'll give you a piece of advice my wife gives me when I'm being whinney:
Honey, put your feet down it ain't that deep.
And when i have a million things to do I make list!
Best of luck!

So sorry for the loss and the stress you are dealing with. Hopefully it all works out for the best in the end. Life has a funny way of doing that sometimes. Best wishes!

Angelia, I am so very sorry about your beautiful shop. I also got a big heart jolt when I read that you have no place to work. Just so happens that I have a big studio, work space inside and outside, and I would be delighted to share with you if you'd like to come get some art time. I just happen to be set up for fiber...
